We all tend to be like a tight rope these days, stretched at both ends by the demands on our lives. We spend so much time running around; doing this, doing that, thinking this, thinking that, taking care of our kids, taking care of our job… the list goes on. Often it is just really hard to be present. But there’s a cheap and VERY accessible tool we can all use to help us change our perspective and get off the tight rope.

Breath

If we can remember to breathe on purpose, we can loosen that rope and change our perspective. You can be thinking a million thoughts right now, but if you stopped and took a breath, you would relax just a little bit. What if you – on purpose – paused to take a few more breaths, and deliberately felt INTO those breaths. You would feel yourself becoming a little less anxious. A little more present to the moment.

The great thing about breath is that it doesn’t cost anything. You don’t have to go anywhere to get it. It’s right there at our fingertips. Try it right now.

Just close your eyes and feel whatever it is that you’re sitting on.  A chair? Or couch? Feel your feet on the floor. Just take some time to breathe in and out. Feel the air coming in and flowing out of your body. Study what happens as it comes and goes. Imagine breathing in some nice relaxing energy and breathing out what no longer serves you right now. Does anything change inside of you?

We wouldn’t have life without our breath. USE that breath to bring life into your world. Shift what is going on inside you. Capture it. Release it.

At Do Tell: The Relationship Game, we believe in small steps that help change your perspective. The relationship game is all about asking questions. Through the game we can build connections with others and possibly with ourselves.

As you plan your summer, why not add this opportunity to breathe with family and friends? Do Tell can be purchased online or at several retail stores. It’s easy to pack along on your vacation, and a great way to add some breath to the end of your day, and a little more fun to your summer.

If you’re not careful, the very opportunity you have to relax (a summer vacation) can become the source of more tension. So, remember to breathe, find some simple ways to have fun and determine to get off the tight rope.
