This week is Christmas. You’ve heard the song, The 12 days of Christmas. But did you ever know that they actually START on Christmas Day. They run until January 7th, traditionally a day known as “Epiphany.” It is recognized as the day the three wise men came to visit the baby Jesus.
This year the 12 Days of Christmas can be the perfect time to look for your own epiphany about the relationships in your life. It doesn’t matter if you’re single, married, young or old there’s always room to improve the connections you have with the people around you.
As you march through those days after Christmas, remember that epiphany can also mean “a sudden intuitive leap of understanding.” Perhaps we’d all like to be a little wiser when it comes to managing the relationships in our lives. While there is so much joy over the holidays, there is also the potential for a lot of pain. We face more of ourselves during the holidays, reflected in the people we call family. You might like what you see, but you might not like it either. Some people are lonely, and Christmas just reminds them of their solitude. Some people miss loved ones that are recently passed. Some people just wish everyone they love could find a way to be honest and accept each other where they are. No one is perfect. That is why we have Christmas.
While you may be looking forward to the shopping, wrapping, eating and snacking winding down, remember that Christmas is a season. Just like relationships, it is not for one day only. It is built with the memories we create over a lifetime.
We hope “Do Tell the Relationship Game” can be a small part of those memories for your family this holiday season. If you already have a copy of the game in your home, we hope you find a time to use it in your family gatherings. (If you don’t have it yet, you might still have time to get it either online, or at a local retailer.) Even if you don’t have an epiphany, maybe you’ll get a new understanding or connection while playing that will build your relationships. Or, maybe you’ll just have a good laugh together. That’s perfect for the holiday season, too, because, really Christmas and the season that surrounds it IS about joy.
The three wise men knew that. We hope you also find it to be true.
Merry Christmas from all of us at Do Tell.
We’re looking forward to sharing the New Year with you.
