After a long hard Winter, we all need a little more Spring and sunshine. The calendar tells us that we’ll get Spring soon. So, let’s talk about looking for sunshine. Yes, that’s right:
Looking for sunshine.
Do Tell: Tell Card: “Name one beautiful thing you saw today. What made it beautiful?”
Have you ever had a day where you carried the sun in your heart, even though there were clouds in the sky? Or maybe you’ve had the opposite experience. Either way, you can make the sun happen for you by starting with a little appreciation for the world around you.
Your assignment today starts with finding one thing in your world to appreciate that you looked past yesterday.
The natural world has something to appreciate at our fingertips all of the time.
Nature and all living things have an innate beauty that can change your state of mind. This is especially true in spring. After a season of darkness, cold and brown, the ground is starting to yield the first green sprouts of new life. Early plants and flowers are pushing up through the earth. If you haven’t noticed it yet, look today. If you don’t live in an area where spring has started to show itself yet here’s a great reminder of what it’s like.
This week we ALL can take advantage of the “springing forward” of daylight savings time to get outside after work and enjoy that extra hour of daylight. While you’re there, take a look around. Any animal, any plant, even the sky or a fingernail that grows well can be a place you can find a new appreciation for life. If you live in a big city get to a park, or just look at the tree that grows out of the sidewalk, are there the beginnings of new buds there?
Spend some time with your pets. If you’re really down, just connecting with another being that has a heartbeat can be comforting. It can bring you peace and smooth over loneliness or fear.
You might have to cut back the old growth in your yard to see it, or rake up the muck of dead leaves that have overstayed their welcome, but if you look closely you will see that glimpse of green.
Let it signal your own rebirth to a new state of mind and thoughts. When you practice this kind of appreciating, you will feel a release of energy. It is just the tip of the iceberg.
At Do Tell: The Relationship Game, we believe that starting by capturing your thoughts and making them behave for you, you can begin to live the life you deserve.
Happy Spring.
